Yet as luck would have it, literally and fuguratively just as Aang, the main protagonist of Avatar: The Last Airbender was freed awakening from frozen captivity for one hundred years, Netflix has produced a live action revival thawing out, 16 years later, one of the most beloved and critically aclaimed animated actions shows of all time. With the exception of big screen vet, Jamie Lee Curtis, it had an all Asian cast lead by Michelle Yeoh (sometimes referred to as the female Jackie Chan) and Ke Huy Quan who was an 80's child actor washed out of Hollywood as an adulthood. Yet, EEAAO swept pretty much every major film award of the 2022-2023 season all the way to the 95th Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Yeoh), Best Supporting Actor (Quan), Best Supporting Actress (Curtis), Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. But how does this film fit in for us fanboys? And just like that, one half of new head of DC Studios, James Gunn took to social media to announce their road map for the next several years thereby also consolidating its universe for films, TV streaming and comicbooks. No longer will there be differently confusing Batmen and alternate versions of characters under one roof. From non-Henry Cavill Superman to animated Creature Commandos to Authority anti-heros, this primary "phase" has been labeled, Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Even for the cynic, many hope we will get fresh solid storytellings enough to rival Kevin Feige's MCU. Let's wait and see.
From Super Mario Bros. (1993) to Assassin's Creed and to recently Uncharted (starring Tom Holland), videogames turned into movies and/or TV shows have notoriously flopped one after another. It is an established rule to avoid watching from this genre altogether yet one begs to ask why the entertainment industry continues to churn when the response revies are usually negative.
As of January of 2023, HBO Max has released the live action post-apocalyptic series, The Last of Us, based on the massively popular Sony Playstation game of the same name starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (A Game of Thrones). Currently is it enjoying high marks on Rotten Tomatoes (99% Average/ 96% Audience) but is it up to TBC_afp snuff?

With the passing of Chadwick Boseman, Hollywood was shaken and the Marvel Studios movie machine was left questioning on how to pivot on the production of its expected sequel to Black Panther. The loss of Boseman left a massive void and for studio head Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler to pull the project out of danger. But would they be able to bring reconciliation and healing to those who have lost a friend, a family member and for many an icon.

Since the mid 2000s, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, then dubbed "the most electrifying man in sports entertainment" had been attached to the project, Black Adam. For many, Black Adam is an unknown whereas for comic book fans he is in DC Comics, SHAZAM!'s chief antagonist, poweful enough even to match the likes of Superman. Forward to late 2022, the project finally comes to fruition in a worldwode cinematic release, all the while Warner Bros ushers in new leadership to its rebranded division DC Studios (formerly DC Films), headed by Marvel Studio veterans, James Gunn and Peter Safran. By The Book of Vishanti! The Marvel Cinematic Universe has delivered one of it's most ambitious projects to date with Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness directed by Marvel movie pioneer and cult horror filmmaker, Sam Raimi. The film, neverthess, is a direct follow up from both Spider-Man No Way Home and Disney Plus' WandaVision, thrusting Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlett Witch as Doctor Stephen Strange's antogonist. Strange of course is as always masterfully portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, returning to fulfill his franchise duties but this time carrying the weight of the MCU's phase on his shoulders. Certainly a tall order for the Veteran Brit actor extraordinaire. But how do the fanboys of TBC_afc really feel about this wacky comicbook adventure brought to screen?

When actor Oscar Issac isn't portraying characters stretching throughout the spectrum from Star Wars' Poe Dameron to X-Men Mutant baddie Apocalypse to Dune's Duke Leto Atreides or even voicing animated Spider-Man 2099, He also plays several protagonight due to the titular hero's Dissociative identity disorder in Marvel Studios' Moon Knight on Disney Plus.
